Paris is a city to be savoured slowly. Take comfortable shoes, decide on an area, then wander. Allow yourself time to enjoy the flower seller beside a tiny wrought-iron fountain, the brightly canopied pavement cafe rich with the smell of aniseed and fresh coffee, a subtly carved stone doorway, the statuesque mime artist perched on a concrete bollard. It is almost impossible to get lost. If your feet collaps under you, you will never be far from a metro.
