Obsessions rarely have a positive outcome unless they are driven by an inner spiritual path. Money junkies on the other-hand, are often admired by those who are not. As we societal warriors strive almost endlessly to search for financial success, we tend to believe that we need or want more than we already have. Money junkies take things a step further as they usually suffer from a fear of being without. Their worst nightmare is to be bankrupt or worst yet, homeless. Do not confuse money junkies with your average millionaire. Most millionaires are no more than very smart financial specialists if not brilliant.
Unfortunately, money can be a drug for some. The addiction in wanting wealth over anything else makes it all that more elusive. This can feed an obsessive drive in chasing it. The biggest pitfall leans on relationships as they generally suffer the most in any addictive situation. When a person focuses so intently on any given thing any and all other things move to the wayside, hence the behavior of addiction or obsession.
Penny pinching is a red flag in recognizing the symptoms of a money junkie. They can often be noted for never offering to pick up a check at lunch or cocktail hour. As they consciously put themselves on a spending diet they eliminate spending money in any possible way even restricting themselves from purchasing things in life that could make them more comfortable.
Many people that pursue money in an addictive way have fallen into the idea that once they get it they have won the game. Unfortunately, everything has it's price, even money.
