Destination Kenya!
A Kenyan vacation is a definite must, whether you are looking for fun, adventure, beach, relaxation, heritage and history, we have it all! The Kenyan coast with its beautiful miles of sandy beaches is a must for those looking for fun under the Kenyan sun.
Watamu, Mombasa's popular coastal hotspot is the ideal place to have a sensational holiday, whether it's a family holiday, friends ushering in a new year or groups just looking for diverse interests offered in one place.
Watamu is located 120km north of Mombasa, with long white beaches on the coast of the Indian Ocean. With world-class resorts and idyllic deserted beaches, it is nothing less than an oyster pearl in the ocean. Watamu Village is a Swahili or Bajuni fishing village that has grown into a resort in the recent past.
Whether you are interested in relaxing with a novel while you bask in the warm sunshine or enjoy adventures such as scuba diving, swimming with dolphins or hiking in the forest, Watamu offers it all. Watamu is perfect for a family vacation as well as a romantic rendezvous.
There are a number of accommodation places to choose from, from all inclusive beach resorts to basic lodgings in the village. With the holidays just around the corner, you might want to book your holiday right away. Watamu is no secret to all, but at the same time is not as over-done or exploited as is the North Coast. Watamu offers a range of activities and a bother-free beach, the beach boys can be a hindrance when all you plan to do is getaway from the city life.
A marine national park has been established offering snorkeling and diving, a great way to appreciate and enjoy the wonders of what exists under the sea. Deep sea fishing, a popular activity amongst the locals as well as tourists is offered at Watamu. For the light hearted, more romantic, the long beaches with sea life exposed on rocks on the beach offer a scenic experience while taking long walks at low tide, enjoying the breeze.
Interested in the history? Gede, a national museum 11km away from Watamu. Gede Ruins, 12th Century Swahili ruins are little documented, but somewhat provides a history on the town and village. Another attraction, The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest is one of the largest stretches of Brachystegia woodland on the eastern African coast, and more than six endangered species of bird, as well as the little known Golden Rumped Elephant Shrew, a giant shrew that has only been identified in a couple of locations in East Africa. Milda Creek, a place where you can enjoy boat and dhow trips.
For those, who would rather just stay at the resort and skip the sight seeing, exploring can enjoy the activities common at most hotels and resorts in Mombasa, such a live band and sumptuous buffet meals on most nights, swimming pools, easy access to the beaches, water polo games with the other guests. Most of the resorts offer in house salons and spas, with massage treatment borrowed from a number of exotic locations in the world.
There are regular flights leaving Nairobi a number of times everyday, Malindi has a domestic airport which is easily accessible to Watamu.
