Money junkies: When money is the only thing that matters

by Georgia Peach

Created on: October 17, 2007

Sad to say most of us know a money junkie. Whether it's a family member, co-worker, friend, or neighbor, they're pretty easy to spot.

They have nice homes, nice cars, and the latest of everything. They own every gadget known to mankind and their designer children are dressed only in high end clothing. Piles of unused toys fill up the rooms of their professionally decorated homes.

There is only one thing that the money junkie doesn't have, and that's money. It's shocking really that most of the people who are obsessed with money don't have any. They are usually deep in debt from their extreme overspending habits.

In some cases they've even borrowed money from friends and family to fund their pretentious lifestyles. The money junkie is more worried about impressing an absolute stranger than paying back any outstanding debts. Proving they are above the rest is their top priority.

Money junkies are usually lacking in the self worth department. They don't feel good about themselves so they use the appearance of wealth to prove their worth to others.
Unfortunately these high rollers are trapped in a bottomless pit of spending. No matter how much money they have it will never be enough to satisfy them.

They are so busy trying to prove themselves that they don't realize how completely self absorbed that they actually are. Like any other type of junkie they need help before it's too late, starting with the acknowledgment that they have a problem.

The worst part about being acquainted with someone who puts money first is that their presence can be draining. While they brag about their latest trip to Tahiti the rest of us feel badly about our financial situations. Just remember that the big spenders are likely headed for trouble and those who brag the loudest are covering up for their deep lack of fulfillment.
