Is there too much sex on TV? Of course everywhere you look there are more sex type scenes though in most countries they are rated properly so that viewers have the discretion whether to watch it or now. However, when you compare this with the amount of sex being shown on the Internet via what looks like safe links, the amount of sex on TV pales into insignificance.
What could be most offensive to families are the increasing numbers of adverts for sexual partners and nude or semi nude pictures to be downloaded on mobiles during the commercial breaks. In Australia these type of adverts are not shown during early viewing hours but with TVs now in several bedrooms of children, there is nothing stopping them from watching late night programmes and getting hooked on the rather expensive adverts on display.
The sexual adverts leave nothing to be desired and makes the sexual innuendos on commercial or pay TV much less harmful as they are usually kissing or fondling scenes with rarely full frontal sex scenes like what you get on the Internet sites or the dating or mobile phone download adverts.
I am amazed at the explosion of adverts for so called dating (or mating?) clubs promoting sexual preferences of all types on local free to air TV channels. I know it brings in revenues for these companies in the late hours but there should be a rethink on this.
I guess that advertisers now call the tune on free to air channels for obvious reasons but there must be a balance in the adverts. Talking of sexual encounters, the worst are the low moral TV series like Bold And The Beautiful where one woman has slept with the husband's whole family and this is shown during prime time! What lessons will that be sending the younger generation many of whom are our children and nephews and nieces, not to mention grandkids?
