Gear 7.03 - a good alternative burning software(4/5 Stars).

Gear 7.03 DVD does all the basics well, and is less bloated than it's main competitors. It is stable and performed all the basic tasks I expected from it CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-Audio burning especially, but it is also capable of much more like it's competitors.

It's copying and burning a disc image facilities were second to none! Gear 7.03 claims it has the fastest Virtual Image building on the market. I did not perform speed tests against another application so I cannot confirm this, but it certainly was fast!

The main disadvantage I find with it, is that it is not so user friendly as the two market leaders. The interface is not quite as intuitive. One has to learn a little more about how to do things properly and what the possibilities are.

Of course it uses the standard drag and drop "Explorer" like interface, but to actually perform the task one wants there are a lot of options. Possibly too many in one place. This can be a little confusing for the average user. I think it would have been improved if there were more wizards to guide the user through the process, and hidden some of the more advanced options unless they were specifically requested.

It is only available for Windows at the moment, and only up to XP.

Once I had learned how to use it properly, I found it to be an excellent program, and very reliable. It is also cheaper than it's main competitors, so good value for money.
