Free online resources for academic research

The University of Nevada library has an extensive collection of primary and secondary sources that follow into many different categories of history. Books are not the only sources that you can find at the University library. There are electronic journals, magazines and dissertations written by other college students. The library also has access to computers for further research and also inter-library loan. Inter-library loan is a good source of getting a book if the Nevada library does not have it. The librarian will search area libraries and find the book that you are looking for and then it will be sent to the Nevada library for you to pick up. There is also a database that you can search for newspaper articles written from any newspaper that has articles archived electronically.

If you are looking for an individual from American History, the American National Biography is a great place to start. This journal was a 24 volume set in the late 1990's and is updated yearly. It has access to over 20,000 biographies written by scholars who have researched the subject. World Cat is a journal that gives information on issues dealing with a specific journal or articles publication. If a book or article is published, and it is not in the library this search will tell you what library it is at, and if you can get access to it. America: History and Life is another American History journal that has indexes of articles, book reviews and dissertations that deal with US history.
Other areas of history that are represented electronically include journals of African history such as African Studies Review, Arab Studies Quarterly, and the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies. These are just a few, but this gives one an idea of how broad the spectrum is on the topics that are located in the journal database.
Other databases found at the University of Nevada library include electronic versions of complete texts. There are reference books that can be accessed online and style guides to give the proper form of writing that a professor asks a student to use.
Overall if you can not find what you are looking for at the University of Nevada library, than they will help you find it or get it for you from another university library.
