Reactions to the death of Captain America

My Reaction to the Death of Captain America

Even before I started reading Marvel Comics, I knew who Captain America was. Being a soldier in the Army, he was sort of an icon. The Patriotic Super Soldier who represented everything America stood for.

Within the past couple years; he's become more of a personal hero. Not just an icon to many, but a character that I see myself in.

I woke up one morning and walked into work. Everything was business as usual until I opened up MSN and read the article. Captain America was dead. When I picked up my copy of the comic book, I couldn't have been more furious.

No, our hero wasn't killed in action. He was assassinated. Not just assassinated either. He was assassinated in one of the most humiliating ways imaginable.

Here was a man who stood up for what he believed in. While it's true, he may have taken his opposition to the Super Human Registration Act to the extreme, he was only doing what he thought was right. I have no argument with him there.

The days went by and then they turned into weeks, and then into months. I lost a little bit of hope every time I read an issue of Captain America. Our dear Captain was not coming back.

Another thing that angers me about his death is the fact that he was taken away at a time America needed him the most. Whether or not you read Marvel Comics, it's a safe bet to say that you probably know who Captain America is and you probably know a little about him. Captain America is a legendary icon. He represents the true ideals of America and Marvel just went and killed him off.

The one man who represented everything we believed in has been taken away. In this time when hope is struggling to get through, a hero is taken away.

I've heard rumors that they are bringing Captain America back, but it won't be Steve Rogers. Whoever they introduce will be different. They will most likely be from this era and won't have the same good old "Boy Scout" image Cap had. They will represent a new America. One that has already been tainted by all the turmoil that has piled up over the years.

That thought breaks my heart.
