The basics of home computer security

all they have to do is shove their way in. Now if you had a firewall and some body knocks at the door, you would look through the peephole and see who it is. If you didn't invite them over just don't say any thing and they will go away. They can't get in either because the door is locked. Firewalls just monitor the Internet connection and make sure your computer doesn't talk to strangers. It also put a high level of encryption between you and the Internet. Norton, Mcafee, Black Ice, and PC Viper out puts some of the most popular firewalls on the market.

Shopping on the Internet is becoming very popular. Especially, during the holidays. You never have to wait in line at the checkout. You can simply search for what you're looking for by typing it in a box. Plus you can get just about anything your want without leaving your chair. You can buy a house, groceries, cars, cameras, computer, pets, and cloths just to mention a few.

But whenever you shop online you have to make sure you do it safely. Whenever you are shopping make sure there is a lock icon on the bottom of your browser before you put in your credit card number. If you don't make sure of this a hacker might intercept your transaction. And you could run into and identity theft problem. With your name and credit card number somebody else can become you. They can open new credit card account and rack up to the bill. They can have all your mail forwarded to them. They can pretty much do what ever they want and you will take the fall.

You also should be careful with who you talk to on-line. There have been two cases where people had been talking to someone online and decided to meet the person. They first one was a sixteen year old male who was talking with and older woman. She convinced him to meet her and bring some money with him. He was found the next day dead. There was also another case of a woman dating a man over the Internet. They finally decided to meet for lunch one day. Everything started out fine then he pulled out a hammer and started beating her over the head and stole most of her belongings. He left her in and alley for dead but she was able to call for help via a cellular phone. Neither one of the attackers have been caught.
