A huge wave of female confidence has impacted modern relationships by storm - think tsunami. Many "old school" beaus are now in over their heads, and good for them. Perhaps now they'll learn how to swim the tide of the times!

Women of today expect much more of themselves and their men than to carry on with worn themes of distressed maidens, and knights sporting a Messiah Complex. Chivalry is not dead, however. It has simply risen to a new level. Knights in shining armor do still exist, but there are now more Joans of Arc and far fewer Sleeping Beauties.

Gentlemen still open doors for ladies; though now these are often corporate doors. The ladder of success has also been redefined for both genders. Partners of both genders now value more quality time spent with family, as well as power networking.

Mind you, I'm not a Feminist and certainly don't think women are superior to men (that went out with Valerie Solanas), nor do I see any gender as being dominant over another (leave such role-playing games for after hours), but I have re-framed my take on what it means to be "feminine". Fortunately, I've met quite a few men who have too.

I don't advocate that women compete with men. More cooperation on an even playing field - and not just kitchen and hearth - is what I'm talking about.

Spouses once recruited to the task of toting groceries, now help tout the wife's bulging briefcase.

No longer do ladies define their selves by relationship status. This relieves their mates of much stress. What guy needs a monkey on his back?

Women today, may reinvent themselves to their hearts content, and not just in fashion. Many men have taken the hint and reinvented their role too. We all wear many more hats today and relationships have much more to gain.

In a sane society, there will always be a division of labor. The difference today, is the boundaries are less fixed. Couples have more breathing space to sample each other's territory. This enriches many relationships, allowing each partner a little more room for growth.

Confident females relieve many a guy of the need to overcompensate for a weaker "better half". The alpha male who leans on a damsel in distress to define his machismo by, had better rethink his options! Today's females are capable of being their own persons AND rock the cradle of civilization.

Maybe Lara Croft and Indiana Jones will wed after all!
