Ten things I want to teach my child

My children mean the world to me. If I had to choose only ten things to teach them, these are the things I would teach to them.

1. Be kind to others, and to animals too. - Being kind to others is something I was to see from my children. Kindness to me comes before almost everything else. I want them to be kind, compassionate and understanding of others. I don't want them to make fun of others because they may happen to look different or to talk differently. I want to see sheer KINDNESS. As long as my children are KIND I will always be proud of them.

2. To stand up for the weak - I want my children to do something different than most other kids do. Instead of standing on the sidelines and watching someone else get made fun of, or joining in, I want to see them stand up with the weaker person and help them. In the area I live in, an old man who was homeless was recentally kicked to death by some teenagers. There were other teens who stood back and did nothing, I want my children to be the type of person to help others, not just to watch.

3. Not to follow the crowds - Too many of today's children play follow the leader. They never try to do their own thing for the most part, and I want my children to grow up and to be UNIQUE.

4. To Respect their elders - My children should grow up understanding that their elders deserve respect, and I want them to treat our older generation with that respect. They should also learn that the older generation has a lot to teach them.

5. To Laugh at the little things - I don't want my children to get terribly upset when small things go wrong, and I don't want my children to grow up to worry too much and get ulcers. My children need to learn to laugh at the little things.

6. To be good to their children when they have them - I want my children to grow up to be good parents, and to learn from any mistakes I have made and to not make them on their own children.

7. I want my children to learn about priorities, especially when it comes to money - In today's generation, many children grow up and they want everything and they want it right than and there. I want my children to learn that money should not be thrown around for anything and everything and just because they want something.

8. My children must learn to not judge a book by it's cover - I want my children to give things a chance, learn to try out new things and to never judge a person or anything else by what it looks like.

9. That racism is not to be tolerated - I want my children to understand that racism is like a poison, that it can sicken the soul and that it has no room in our society. I want them to understand that racism is never to be tolerated, after all no one chose to be born of a particular race, and no matter what color we are, we are all human beings. Color is just pigmentation of the skin and nothing more.

10. I want my children to learn to be imaginative. Imagination is very important and it is worthwhile to daydream a little, and to never lose sight of your dreams. Pretending is worthwhile as well.

If I had to choose these are the things my child would learn.
