Home educating.
Home educating is something I have done now for nearly three years, when I moved to Cumbria from kent in 2002 I put both my children into junior school, in the hope that they would settle in and make friends which they both did.
The problem arose when Samantha my daughter moved to secondary school, she was picked on, called names and generally made to feel unwelcome, and dispite my visiting the head teacher on numerous occasions, nothing was done about this problem, in fact at one point, the head teacher told me I was being an over protective mother, verging on paranoid.
I felt let down by the whole education system, and was at the end of my tether, the final straw came when Samantha admitted to me that she was suicidal, she was scared to attend school, she was frightened for her life. I spoke to daryn's head teacher, who gave me a internet link of a organisation called education otherwise who specialized in home educating kids. We looked up there website and joined.
We wrote de registration letters to both head teachers and removed the kids from school immediately, we saw an instant effect, and other the first few months Samantha, or Sammie as she prefers, started to adjust, she looked and acted more confident, she is now nearly 16 years old and is a well rounded very grown up young lady, she is going to college in the summer to a catering and hospitality course, she is a amazing cook already, she has access to the internet, loves her music, and helps with the variety of animals we have on the smallholding. They have both learnt so much more than they would have done at school. We don't have to stick to a timetable, or a curriculum, and I have found they learn more when it is not rammed down their throats.
I would certainly recommend home education to any family who has children who are bullied or unhappy at school.
