The U.S. State Department web site(http://www.dvlottery.stat e.gov) for the 2009 Diversity Visa(otherwise known as the Green Card lottery) Program (DV-2009) is now open.
This Congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available 50,000 permanent resident visas every year, drawn from random selection among all entries to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
The application submission period for the Green Card lottery is started at 12:00PM EDT (GMT -4) on October 3, 2007 and will be up and running until 12:00PM EST (GMT -5) on December 2, 2007.
The application form, only be available for submission during this period and this period only, allows you to enter the lottery without hiring an attorney or agents.
Remember, there have been instances of fraudulent websites posing as official U.S. Government sites. Some companies posing as the U.S. Government have sought money in order to "complete" lottery entry forms.
There is no charge to download and complete the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form.
Infact, the DV-2009 Lottery Instructions are also available in PDF format for your convenience.
And the Department of State will notify successful Diversity Visa applicants by letter, and NOT by email.
However,Applications for the Green Card lottery are not be accepted through the U.S. Postal Service.
