I believe private colleges are better than public ones not because of the academic achievement because that depends on the student, not the schools. The reason I say that private ones are better is because of the service they provide to students. As a personal experience of mine and of close friends in a public college from advisers to clerical workers treat you really bad and not only in one school, but I had that experience in three different public colleges. I understand that they may have many students but it's not like the 15,000 students are going to the same office at the same time for the employees to treat you that way.
Teachers are another story, they are very helpful and sometimes end up doing somebody else's job because of the way offices treat students. Three different times have I found myself or friends on the edge of crying because of the way we were treated. We are treated with insolence and we don't matter and as if we are wasting they're wasting their precious time on us. They get paid to help us, they should be available and should know the right information on how to help us.
Another issue that bothers me a lot from public colleges is that you have to do a long line and one person tells you to do something and then come back, once you are back you meet with another person and they tell you a completely different thing, they make you waste more time on whether you have five or six copies of your drivers license, it's ridiculous.
On private colleges you even get calls asking you if everything is all right or if there is anything they can help you with. That is the way a student is motivated to do a better job, to archive all their goals and these colleges don't give a hard time to students, the employees there do want to help students.
