Video games are addictive. And rightfully so, what's not to like about them? They are fun, colorful, and interactive entertainment. Weather you admit it or not, video games and PC games exercise your motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and thought process. Yes, I think it is safe to say that video games have some degree of functionality besides simple entertainment. But how do you know if you are spending too much of your time gaming? I have faced myself with this question on occasion, and found myself left wanting. Here are some questions to ask yourself when you might wonder if you need to break from gaming.
1.) Do you spend more then 1 hour a day playing video/PC games, or stay up late?
-If you answer yes, then it is possible you are gaming too much. Or perhaps you have a limited social life, and you should get out of the house more.
2.) When is the last time you cleaned up your house/room?
-When you look around and see dishes, laundry, and an abundance of clutter; it is possible that you are spending too much time gaming. Causing you to neglect everyday chores.
3.) When did you last see your friends or family on a social level?
-If you have begun to neglect the people you love in order to make more time for gaming, then its quite possible you have got your priorities mixed up a bit. You may need to re-evaluate what is really important in your life.
4.) Do you have multiple computers or TV's with which you play just one game?
-This may sound like an odd question; but if you answered yes, then you are indeed putting way too much time and effort in your gaming hobby. (And YES it is completely possible to jerry-rig systems to play one game on multiple devices. Trust me; I have done this, and NO I won't tell you how).
5.) How many different game systems do you have?
-Play station, P2, X-BOX, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Atari 2600, Sega, A shelf full of PC games (Never Winter Nights, DOOM, War Craft, etc.), and an on-line game membership(s). I have all of these and more. And I can tell you when you reach more then 2 different game systems; you are probably over indulging.
6.) Have you spent large sums of money upgrading your television/entertainment system, or computer for the sole purpose of a better gaming experience?
-This will include (but not limited to): A bigger hard-drive, graphics card, a faster on-line service, or even a completely brand new computer. It will also include a bigger television, bigger, better, and faster controllers, a surround sound
