Men lie because we have to. It'd be nice if I could just leave it at that and let everyone argue about it. Whether or not women lie to men I have no clue. I know enough to know that I don't know enough about women.
About men though, I can give you some insight. In the past, women have demanded the truth from me. Then, they immediately placed me in a situation where I was forced (by self-preservation) to lie! "Do I look fat?" Am I really supposed to say "yes?" "Is she prettier than me?" "Who- the 19 year-old, silver-eyed, five-foot-eleven-inch, redhead with 'double D's'?" Do you really want the honest answer to that question?
Men usually lie to keep themselves out of some sort of trouble. Many times, women (and their emotions) can be like what the military calls a "UXO." That particular acronym means "Un Exploded Ordnance." If you touch it, smell it, listen to it, look at it, or even think about it the wrong way, it explodes and creates a life-threatening situation. Funny, that sounds exactly like a woman (or two) that I knew in the past. To prevent an emotional "explosion" as listed above, men will usually lie. Life's usually easier if you just tell a woman what you know she'd rather hear. I'm not saying that's right, but its true!
Sometimes lying makes us feel better about ourselves. Many of us have insecurities (I know I do), and bending the truth a little about them makes us feel a little better. Sometimes lying makes something that would be a "big deal" a somewhat smaller deal. It's easier to avoid a fight or heated discussion my minimizing things (just a little) some of the time. Sometimes lying helps you avoid a fight and just keeps the peace: "I like your (fat, obnoxious, loud, boorish, self-righteous and-for- some-reason single) friend." Is a little easier on the ears without the "descriptors."
Also, sometimes the woman in your life (wife, fiance, girlfriend) is the only one you're supposed to "sleep with." If you don't lie about something, she's going to be upset, ergo you're not going to get any loving until she sees fit. If you ask me, (you sorta' have because you're reading my article) lying is a lot easier.
There you have it- we lie to save our own skins, we lie to spare your feelings, we lie so that you'll still love us and we lie (a lot) so that you'll still sleep with us. Honest!
