Of course lots of people think that science is completely separate from all other things in life, as it's all about facts and nothing more. But this just isn't true. For there are facts and there is the interpretation of those facts. And most of the time the facts need some kind of interpretation to be used for the goal they were found for.
On top of that, most scientific projects aren't done only for the science, but the science serves a certain goal. And that goal has usually a lot to do with ideology. Scientists want to find a cure for cancer because they don't want people to die of it. They invent an even faster car engine because they don't like to spend more time in a car than necessary. They invent doping products, so that their favorite athletes can achieve even more. There are very few scientists that work on projects just for the sake of science. For the scientists are humans and humans don't want to waste their time for nothing.
Sometimes the ideologies are very clear, like in case of medical research. Sometimes it's a lot harder to find it. When I hear about research after life on Pluto, then I really wonder why on earth anyone would be interested in that. We have enough problems with the life on our planet, so why wasting your time for other planets? Still these people have a reason for that. They want to know such things, so that they can believe in something else than a God that only created life on earth.
Humans are full of ideologies and often we aren't even aware of them. As soon as you don't have any dreams or desires left, then you have nothing left to live for. So scientists always have their work influenced by an ideology, though they might often not be aware of it, or they will give it a different name.
