For a traveler, learning the services of an Embassy is essential. Having a location, phone number or web link of an Embassy will help you understand the requirements of obtaining a visa. Visas are the permission that is granted by a nation to a traveler permitting entry into that country for a specific purpose. Most visas are stamped into the traveler's passport.
The most common types of visas are granted for the specific purposes of tourism, conducting business or attending a conference or symposium, establishing temporary or permanent residence, or going to school. A traveler must follow very distinct guidelines and procedures established by each sovereign nation in applying for the appropriate visa category directly at the Embassy.
A passport is proof of citizenship, and permits you to re-enter back to your native land after your trip abroad. However, a passport does not automatically permit entry into every country without a visa. Many countries allow passport holders to enter without a visa because of reciprocal visa waivers and long-standing diplomatic relations; many countries do not.
And speaking of passports, when traveling to another nation, it is vital to know where your country's Embassy is located. Please keep a photocopy of the first two pages in a separate area when you travel, in case it is lost or stolen. A citizens' service unit at your country's Embassy issues emergency passports, processes passport applications, provides notary services, provides voting information, and can issue documents births and deaths. It also assists travelers in distress; for example, in acquiring funds from home, in arranging for medical care, or in assisting you if you are arrested or incarcerated.
You could try searching for the embassy of your choice, however, that can be time consuming especially if you are traveling to several areas; why not just use one site that can link you to every Embassy in the world? One of the best comprehensive website to obtain all worldwide information on is VisaHQ (http://www.visahq.com/).
