How to cope when your wedding gets cancelled

When you become engaged you think you are going to spend the rest of your life with your soul mate. There is no one in this universe that you could ever love more then this person. So when you suddenly have to cancel your wedding you feel as if the wind has been knocked out of you. The bride or groom who is blind sided may even feel like their lives are over. It of course isn't but it feels like it.

Dealing with a canceled wedding before the actual day is pretty rough. It becomes worse when you are stood up at the alter because you have to face the friends and family. These people were there to see one of the happiest day in your life and instead they see one of the worst.

You want to scream as they tell you that it will be okay or that if they would do something this hurtful to you that are better off without them. They are trying to make you feel better but somehow it just makes it worse. This was the love of your life and even though they hurt you it is painful to hear someone else bad mouth them.

The first thing you need to know is that you're not the first person this has happened to and you most likely won't be the last. I know that really doesn't make you feel better but it might take away some of the shame you may be feeling.

Don't blame yourself. You might get a chance to find out why they left by talking to them, but even if you don't you need to know that it wasn't something you did. Marriage is a huge commitment that can scare people. I'm sure there were brief moments you yourself may have even been a little freaked out.

This is a tough time so if you are being offered help dealing with the aftermath take it. Trying to get deposits and whatever money you can back is going the be rough and you will need some support. Returning any wedding gifts is also something that someone else can do for you. Dealing with it on your own may cause more pain because you are constantly reminded of the dreams you had turning into a nightmare.

Take some time to be alone so you can process everything. People are going to be asking you what happened as soon as they find out as soon as they see you so this time alone will also give you time to this about what you want to say. The same thing applies to giving or asking for the engagement ring back.

Most of all remember this may have been a good thing. As rough as that sounds it's true. If it wasn't meant to be than it is easier to call it quits now then getting divorced later.
