'Surviving' a car ride with toddlers

There's nothing more frustrating than a fussy toddler in a car ride. It's always important to be prepared for anything. The following are a few tips you may want to consider, and pick depending on your child's personality.

1) Have a board book that interests your child, like cars, animals, his favorite character, etc. It would be helpful if they haven't seen this book before or they haven't seen it for a long time

2) An Aquadoodle, Magnadoodle, or drawing board. They can keep doodling and doodling without running out of paper.

3) Sing songs with your toddler in the car. If you don't know a lot of nursery rhymes, bring a children's cd along with you. Or better yet, make up songs with your toddler.

4) Talk to your child. Point out things they can see outside the window. You can also count every red car, every yellow sign, or every big truck that you pass.

5) Coloring book, crayons and stickers. These are always good to keep a toddler busy for a long time.

6) Bring lots of snacks and drinks. These are a always proven to keep toddlers entertained and satisfied.

7) A familiar dvd can be a lifesaver, but use it as a final resort. Try to keep the dvd off as long as possible, until you really need to. You wouldn't want that same movie playing over and over for hours.

8) Play with your child. If someone is sitting with your toddler in the back, have them toss a ball with each other. They can play "Simon Says" and finger games with each other. If the child is in the back seat by himself/ herself, you can still play with them by making sounds and asking your toddler what sound you're making. And they can do the same thing.

Just remember to take toys out one at a time. A child will get overwhelmed if they know they have so many options and they will just get fussier in the car.
