Al Gore awarded Nobel Peace Prize

by Micah Olson

Created on: October 13, 2007

It is a breath of fresh air to finally see a good side to a politician, or, in this case an ex-politician. The once scrutinized Al Gore has shown the people what we are doing to our world and offered up ways for us to help solve the problem. Funny enough, if Al Gore decided to run for President, he would probably defeat Hillary Clinton. That is not in his interest. Al Gore has found what interests him and that is learning about our environment and teaching us what he knows from his genius perspective. His movie was rated so highly that it outdid many mainstream movies at the box office. Al, however, was not in this fight for the money.

In the process of creating his movie we learned of a softer side to Al Gore and he had us all listening. From late night talk shows to doing, The Larry King Show, we could see the legitimate concern in his eyes and his demeanor. Al did not have to sell us on what he was doing. We could see the passion emanating from him. Al Gore has won The Nobel Peace Prize for his environmental work and I can think of no other who deserved it more, especially considering the urgency of the topic at hand. The Arctic ice sheet is melting and polar bears are drowning. Among other problems he has brought forth concerning our throw away generation are the increase in hurricanes, tornadoes, and other dangerous storms. Oceanic temperatures are on the rise and there is no sign of a quick solution.

The world as a whole needed someone like Al Gore to tell us what we are doing to our planet. Not only are we killing animals but we are ruining the earth for future generations. We are headed down the road to possible human extinction. Al Gore plunged deeply into his environmental issues and did the work. He educated himself with passion and integrity. We now have been informed by a loved person just exactly what the repercussions are to what we have been doing and know we must make a change.

Al Gore won The Nobel Peace Prize for two reasons. Firstly, he did the work necessary to win, and secondly, it is an issue that is demanding more attention then ever. If you have not seen his movie I strongly recommend that you do so because it is incredibly informing. We must follow Al's strong stances and try the best we can to save the world that we have been disrespecting for many years. By Al Gore winning The Nobel Peace Prize for his work it shows the time we are in and that we need to wake up and smell the coffee, so to speak. Al did. Congratulations, Mr. Gore, and congratulations to you the reader for taking the cue and doing your part in making this world a better place. Sustainment is key.
