Does happily ever after really exist? This question plagues the masses as they turn to internet, phone, and dating services. Everyone seems to be searching for their 'perfect match' so that they may live 'happily ever after'. This search generates a huge amount of revenue for services cashing in on people's dreams. To some, the simple phrase is just a thought from their childhood; a dream from fairy tales they used to make up in their head. To me, I believe 'happily ever after' does exist. However, its existence is based on what you perceive it to mean. I don't perceive it to mean that I will be swept up by a Prince on a white horse.
I met my husband in an unconventional fashion. That is to say, it as unconventional when we met. We met at a local Applebee's restaurant. I was ordering a salad and waiting with my tea and this dark haired man walked up to me rather nervously. He said, "Today I have met my future wife." Being cynical, I brushed it off as some horrible pick-up line. But, it wasn't. We talked for a while that day and I went home. I ended up with food poisoning and he brought me flowers. Six months later we got married, and are still married after eight years. To me, this was my personal fairy tale. My personal 'happily ever after' scenario.
Happily ever after does not mean that all areas of your life are perfect. It can be exact opposite. I've had many struggles, arguments, tears, and moments of heartbreak. But, there is a defining point in every relationship. My point hit home when my husband was in a near fatal car accident. An epiphany hit me at that moment: I needed him in my life forever. He was my 'happily ever after'. I took care of him after he returned from the hospital three months later. Taking care of a once active man who was wheelchair bound and in a halovest is not the easist task. But, it was a labor of love.
To conclude this, I'd like to stress that no relationship or life is a fairy tale. You won't wake up and find a fairy Godmother waiting for you with a new car, home, or a tiara to crown you. But, with prayers and patience there can be a 'happily ever after' in your future.
