Best comic books

The five best comic book story lines of all time. 'Nuff said.

5. The Infinity Gauntlet saga

The Infinity Gauntlet began in the 1991 limited series "The Thanos Quest" in which the titan known as Thanos steals the six Infinity Gems and attaches them to a gauntlet. When combined, the six gems give him god-like powers and omnipotence. After he destroys half of the sentient life in the universe, the heroes Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock put together a strike force to take him down. Simultaneously, even more powerful beings such as Galactus and Eternity plot to confront Thanos. He is, however, too strong and both attempts to separate him from the Gauntlet fail. Can Thanos be stopped, or will the entire Marvel Universe fall beneath his bejeweled fist?

4. Age of Apocalypse

Where would the world be, without Charles Xavier? Under the tyrannical oppression of the mutant Apocalypse, that's where.

In the series "Legion Quest," Xavier's powerful mutant son Legion goes back in time to kill Eric Lensherr before he is able to become the insidious Magneto. Instead, Legion accidentally kills his own father, thus changing the entire course of history.

X-Men Alpha introduces us to the new future, and in it Apocalypse reigns supreme. Mutants rule and are on a mission to cleanse the world of humans or "flat-scans." Magneto, having promised to carry on Xavier's dream of mutant and human equality, leads the new X-Men against Apocalypse.

Only one person knows the truth of how the Age of Apocalypse came to be and how it can be changed back: Bishop. To put things right, Bishop must convince Magneto to help him obtain the M'kraan Crystal in order to go back in time and stop Legion from killing Xavier, but time is running out.

In the mid-nineties, comic book fans finally got the answer to the age-old question "Who would win in a fight, Superman or The Incredible Hulk?"

In a crossover for the ages, Marvel and DC explored what would happen if their heroes were forced to fight one another to keep their respective universes from being destroyed. Some battles included Superman vs. Hulk, Batman vs. Captain America, Wolverine vs. Lobo and Wonder Woman vs. Storm.

In the end, the universes were combined to create The Amalgam Universe. Marvel characters were merged with DC characters to create altogether new yet familiar personalities. Wolverine merged with Batman to create Darkclaw. Ghost Rider combined with Flash resulting
