Poetry: Sense experience

SENSES

My senses were delayed in stirring today.
The ears heard barely muted sound
of the raindrops as they fell on the rooftops,
attracted to gravity as always.
The sheets felt like skin plastered to mine.
I stretched my hand and seek yours-
vestiges of a dream
with you in my arms.
I will not embrace consciousness for awhile yet ,
let me feel your warmth a little longer.
For now, it will only be US.

When I opened my eyes and awareness crept in-
that your presence was imagined,
I still have a smile on my lips.
I always welcome the day
whether the sun is out
or a storm is raging outside.
You are the rays of the sun
that brightly glints on a beautiful day,
kissing my face.
And on days like this,
I am the earth
that eagerly awaits the waters
as it comes down from the heavens.
I am more alive
with the knowledge that I have YOU!
