For a bit more of a challenge, there's the trek to Paulina Peak, a stunning setting to take in the panoramic tableau of Paulina and East Lakes, Newberry Caldera, and the Big Obsidian lava flow.

Wintertime activities are especially charming at Sun River Resort. In late November, arrive in time to see the Grand Illumination, Central Oregon's most brilliant light display, and the beginning of Sun River's Traditions events.
