who don't know anything about you yet.
Online communities are usually active round the clock, so any time you need somebody to talk to, they are there. There is always someone there.
Online communities can also be turned off when you need to be alone. You don't have to feel bad about canceling on your friends if you don't feel like talking to them that day or if you have more important things to do. You can just close your browser, turn off your computer, and catch up with them later.
Another benefit of online communities is that you can find ones centered around any imaginable topic. Want to talk to people about your obscure hobby that nobody you know in the real world is interested in? There will be somewhere on the internet where you can discuss it with people like you. Need help with a technical problem that's too complicated for the people you know in real life? Somebody online will know, and if you find the right community, you can ask them for expert help.
Online communities are also usually free, there is often no membership fee, you don't have to make everyone a cup of tea, the only outlay is for the computer and internet connection, which you probably have anyway. Real life groups and clubs often charge fees to cover the costs of the location hire, refreshments, equipment etc.
Online communities will never replace real life face to face interactions with your family and friends, but they are a wonderful resource with plenty of benefits. They can be useful for a variety of people in a wide range of situations. Whether you need some company, support, advice or help, there is a community out there just right for you.
