Travel destination: Tour of the Opera House, Sydney, Australia

If we were to consider the eight wonders of the modern world I would nominate the Sydney Opera House, situated on Sydney Harbor at Bennelong Point. The Opera House is Sydney's most popular icons with both tourists and travelers alike, as they stand in front of its unique architecture; some just look and take note, others point their digital cameras and VCRs and record it to memory. Designed by the Danish architect Jorn Utzon, the Sydney Opera House is one of the most distinctive, the most daring structural design of the 20th century buildings is dramatic and unforgettable with a roof evocative of a ship at full sail The edifice is considered one of the famous performing arts centers. -

Sydney Opera House was formally recognized as being unique and outstanding place receiving the honor of being included on the UNESCO World Heritage List on June 28.

A tour of the Sydney Opera House would be in order, which would bring you to the history and secrets behind this international landmark. It would be a memorable opportunity to see this unique form of architecture up close. You will learn that the opera house is home to Australian's principal performing arts companies - Sydney Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Festival and Sydney Philharmonic Choirs.

As you tour you will see the interiors of its major theaters and halls and will understand the motive of its architecture. Many timely events and performances by known musical performers are staged each year at the opera house, its history will be related by the guide - and you could learn what's on during your stay with a thought to buying a ticket for your wife for an evening of excellent music or opera...

'The sun did not know how beautiful its light was, until it was reflected off this building."
- Louis Kahn, architect.

NOTE:
1) The Sydney Opera House was completed in 1973. The first public performance staged at the opera house was Prokofiev's 'War and Peace', and its outstanding acoustics created a memorable event.
2) It is quite easy to get to the Sydney Opera House as it is located near the water's edge and is surrounded by many of Sydney's attractions and an easy ride by public transport. The nearest train station for service to the Opera House is Circular Quay, located on the City Circle line. It is linked to the Sydney Opera House by a covered walkway. Also access to the Opera House is included in the purchase of a See Sydney and Beyond Tourist Card'.
