Finding the right niche for your writing depends on what your end goal is. The right niche for you might be a hobby or something that you are specifically interested in. If your goal is to write something that many people will want to read, or you're writing to sell something you'll want to do some niche research.
It is very simple to find the right niche for pieces that you want to write for your own benefit. The possibilities are absolutely endless for the things you can write about. Family, sports, religion, business, and so on.
Despite the ease of finding a personal niche, many people want to find a niche that will be profitable. In this case, it is very important to do nice research. One way to do niche research is to type a niche you think might be profitable into google adword's Keyword research tool. https://adwords.google.com/sel ect/KeywordTool
This tool allows you to see the search volume for selected keywords. If the search volume is high, then it is likely people are very interested in your topic. Also, this tool allows you to see which advertisers are PAYING for ads in certain niches. If there are many people paying for ads, you can be assured it is a good niche to write in.
Another method of finding great niches is checking out Google Trends- www.google.com/trends. This compiles a list of the topmost searched items and how they perform over time. Of course, finding a niche this way can also lead to a lot of competition from other writers. The key is finding something that many people are interested in and search for, but there are not a lot of writers for.
With a little bit of research you can find a niche that will get you a ton of interested readers. Finding a niche is not easy when you want to succeed as there may be a lot of competition or not much interest. Trial and error is the way to go. However, if you are simply writing for fun, pick a niche you're interested in and don't worry about a thing!.
