No, seriously. Anniversaries are a great time for some frank and honest self-reflection. And if I reflect on our relationship with Helium, the first thing that jumps out at me is the fact that in the entire time I've been writing Helium articles - I've earned four bucks.

I love Helium, don't get me wrong. And I love what it stands for. It's because I love Helium that I ask these questions, just like patriotism can best be expressed by questioning whether your country is being as great as it could be. I mean, it's not like I wrote skimpy articles; I did the best writing that I possibly could. And while getting a few pennies on them was a nice novelty, I have to ask myself every day if it's worth continuing. There are other ways to earn pennies on the net for my writing - and sometimes, it's even more pennies than I'm getting from Helium.

This isn't meant to be a criticism, just an honest statement of where we're at at the one-year mark. You wouldn't want to enter your second year without any exciting challenges ahead, any room for growth? And this isn't just about Helium; it's about everyone who dreams of making money on the internet, working from home, getting compensated for their thoughts and their efforts and their heartfelt creative impulses.

I think everyone involved at Helium - those who run the site, and those who write for it - are all wishing nothing but success for the grand experiment that is the Helium community.
