No, ESPN TV should not cover high school football games.
There are several reasons for this. Firstly, TV means sponsorship which means bi big money. Once money gets into high school football then it would land into the same situation as professional football. Now a student excelling in football knows that after school he may make it big in football. The drive for excelling would exist within him. But once big money flows in then the drive will subside and that will be the end of high school football. Secondly, school games are not in the same league as professional football. There are several areas where students need to improve before they can graduate to full time games. With their current commitments, they cannot concentrate on playing.
Thirdly, in school students should concentrate on their studies with games being used for extra-curricular activity. Fouthly, students and players must remember that their football career will not last a lifetime. By the time they reach their thirties their football career would have ended. After that it is their education that will provide them with sustenance. So every student needs to achieve minimum academic levels. Their academic achievements will sustain them after their football careers end. Remember money is one part. Even if they earn millions of dollars, they will still need to be involved with something. Remember only a handful of players will make the million dollars, for the rest it is their education that will stand them in good stead. Lastly, excess of anything is bad. Remember the days when the number of TV channels were few and how one would enjoy them. But now with endless channels the joy of watching TV is gone. Similarly with so much football the joy of watching good football will disappear. It will soon be meaningless football telecast without much purpose.
Several supporters of this move will argue that getting ESPN TV into high school football will lead to more seriousness and serve as the nursery for nurturing future football talent. They would like to project this as the ultimate solution and a boon for this type of football.
But given all the negatives described above, there is no doubt that this will not provide any benefits. So getting ESPN TV into high school football game may be a good idea in the short run but in the long run it will be a disaster. High school football is a sport and let it remain one.
