Ways to stop worrying so much

It's easy for something to get on your mind and no matter what you try it's difficult to stop worrying about somethings.

I know people who try creative visualization so when they are worrying about something they visualize a positive outcome rather than a negative one.

Yoga is great, it stills the mind completely and stops any mind chatter and meditation is another thing which is highly effective. There are plenty of meditation books and Cd's available, some which involve counting your breath backwards, some concentrating on your in breath and your out breath, some which involve creating an imagine in your head, all of which are way's of focusing your mind on something else. Find which technique works best for you and stick with it, even if you find it difficult at first, it will be worth it in the end.

It's also worth bearing in mind, however much you worry about something you cannot change the outcome and it's also worth considering that most things people worry about don't happen. So don't worry about anything unless you have to.

Another good way to reduce worry is to keep your mind occupied. If you keep yourself busy, whether it be with a book, going out with a friend, going for a long walk etc, it will provide a handy distraction, find something to keep your mind occupied and you won't have time to dwell on what might or might not happen.

Do something that makes you laugh, whether it's just having a good gossip or watching a funny movie, if your mood is up, then you are far less inclined to worry about things, Any distraction technique will help you.

Deal with the problem. If it's something that can dealt with, then deal with it. However difficult it might seem, if you need to resolve something with someone, even if it's a bill you can't pay, talk to whoever you need to talk to. Most people are more understanding than you might give them credit for and you may end up wondering what you were worrying about in the first place.

Finally, talk to someone, it never hurts to share how you feel or what you are worried about with someone you know that you trust and someone that cares about you, remember the saying, a problem shared is a problem halved.
