The top sights to see in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

The top sights to see in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas is a thriving marina town with great beaches, an amazing nightlife, and tons to do to keep you fully occupied all vacation long. The main beach, El Medano, is the perfect place for swimming, water sports, or just relaxing in a lounger and watching the world go by. And as the only Mexican coastal city to house a nature reserve in its limits, you won't be short of things to see.

At the southern tip of Cabo San Lucas lies a stunning natural rock formation known as 'The Arch', which looks rather like a rhino drinking from the sea. Once a year the tide gets low enough for you to walk under the arch, but if you don't make it then, it's still a very impressive sight.

Playa de Amor, Lovers' Beach, is well worth a visit. The beautiful cove is only reachable by water, and is surrounded by stone cliffs. It's the best place to snorkel, or snuggle with your other half over a picnic.

If you are heading to Cabo San Lucas in the winter time, take a trip out to do some whale watching. Each winter, from January to March, the Californian Grey Whales make their journey south to birth their calves in warmer climes, and seeing these magnificent creatures in their own environment is the chance of a lifetime. There are lots of tours departing from the harbor, try Baja Wild, an Eco tourism company devoted to preserving the environment of the area. Or for a truly different trip, take an air tour with Aereo Calafia! (US Toll-Free: 1-818-206-3255)

Seventy miles north of Cabo San Lucas lies the Cabo Pulmo Marine Park, home to the only living coral reef in in the area. Snorkel or scuba dive to see sea lions, sea fans, eels and urchins. The visibility in the area is usually excellent, and the water stays quite warm all year round.

El Faro Viejo is the remains of an old lighthouse built in 1890, and what makes it special is the spectacular 500 foot views of the bay and the shipwreck below. The nearby beach is also a nesting ground for sea turtles. This site is reachable by horse back or ATV, with a number of tour operators in the area running trips.

Although Cabo San Lucas is touristy, it still manages to keep its small town air, and with natural beauty in abundance, it's well worth the trip.
