Movie analysis: Why movies like "Passion" and "Da Vinci Code" get people riled up

Movies like "Passion" and "Da Vinci Code" rile people up, because they feel that their religious and spiritual belief's are being attacked. It like someone is trying to belittle what these people value most in life. To many people Jesus Christ is a very important divine person that has been in their lives, since their parents, school etc introduced the religios concepts of life, the universe and all that. In other words the church and their christianity has been involved in every part of their life. They have read their bible and believe it with such force that they can not and will not except any other ideas that involves what they see as 'Divine or Godly Power'.

Some would say these are the people who are close minded. Those who would rather be told what to believe, rather than explore their own spirituality for themselves. Some say Christians are too afraid even to look at the possiblity that in life we are our own guides. And the only ones who make the decisions our us.

Christians want to believe in something mystical and divine they cant bear the thought that we may be on our own, that the trials and suffering and sickness is just life. They would rather believe that we are not alone and that all these horrible things that happen are just life and living.

Like in 'The Da Vinci Code' the idea that Jesus could have been an ordinary man, who was made a God by a voting system in the early days of Christianity. Or that he had a wife and children came from the Gnostics.

Why all this gets people riled up is quite simple, Fear. The Church and Christians are afraid that they have built their religion and made an icon of an ordinary man, a king in his times and a preacher, but an ordinary man who had human wants and needs like companionship, marriage and children. The 'Jesus' that the church created was above all the things that in their eyes made man weak and human. And they made him above all this a son of god who was more than flesh and beyond the needs and wants of humankind. For him to be married and to have had children with Mary Magdalene in the churches eyes was neither pure nor devine behaviour.

So Peter who was one of the main persons who wrote the bible, made Mary Magdalene have an image which in no way could be seen as pure or divine. In essence they created the images and characters as they wanted to. So in they character assassinated her for their own purpose. Not really a very Christian thing to do eh!

But when it all comes down to it, no matter what you believe is fact or fiction. You must admit that fear can be a powerful tool and can make people do whatever it takes in certain situations.
