Dating with small children: Does your new boyfriend want to be a father

You want to go dating, but you are a young single mother. What do you do? Do you hide your children under the bed or entice them with goodies to stay hidden in a cupboard, just in case your new man does not like the idea of children? I think not! The right approach is to find out if your new boyfriend wants to be a father in the first place.

Of course, you may think the simple answer is just to come out with the fact that you are a mother at the outset of the relationship and, to a certain extent, this may be true. In any case, it will definitely scare off those who really find the prospect of surrogate fatherhood abhorrent. However, there are those boyfriends who will be too polite to be so direct, and you need to weed these men out as well.

1. Conversation

One of the best ways to discover whether you new boyfriend likes the idea of ready-made fatherhood is to bring up the subject of children at the appropriate point during your conversations with him. I would say that bringing the subject of children up during a romantic interlude may not be the wisest choice, but there will be plenty of other opportunities.

Therfore, when the general conversation allows it, talk to your boyfriend about children and fatherhood generally. His reactions will give you a fair indication of his real feelings on the subject, even if the words tend to give a positive response.

Watch the eye changes as the words are mentioned, do they react in an emotional way or do they become reluctant, apprehensive or even cold. Additionally, you should listen for voice changes both in tone and the manner of speaking. If the voice softens and becomes almost charged with emotion, there is a chance that you have found a man who will enjoy fatherhood. If the words become more stilted and abrupt perhaps you need to investigate his feelings on the subject more.

Similarly, take notice of the body language. If, in response to your question or discussion, his body becomes more closed, it is likely he has some concern over accepting the role of fatherhood. If he stays the same of becomes more relaxed, this indicates a comfortable response to the prospect of being a day to your youngsters.

2. Honey meet the kids

The second way to discover whether your new boyfriend is at ease with fatherhoood is to take him to meet the children when you feel the time is right. This is unlikely to be until you feel the relationship has the signs of developing into something romantic.

There is no better indicator as to whether a man
