Nonassimilation: Bowing to the rights of the few over the rights of the many ... I had to type that again to be sure it's actually an issue; and no, it's still a non-issue to me, like "No Child Left Behind" or "shooting yourself in the foot."
That is, it's stupid for everyone who doesn't need it.
The main example I look at is a hypothetical group trekking across some uncharted plain. As it's 'uncharted,' the leader has to keep track of everyone while finding the way to a destination.
Now in this group there are "sprinters," "joggers," "sturdy walkers" and "stragglers." The sprinters are content with the 'run-wait-run-wait'-pattern; the joggers-by-and-large-are willing to go just slowly enough to stay in view of the group; the sturdy walkers generally serve as the "pace"; and the stragglers are used to making up for lost time.
Of course, that's only "in general"-when things are all-normal. Occasionally, the odd sprinter will feel an extra rush and will get so far ahead as to lose sight of the group; the odd jogger will get lost in the wonder of the clear sky or the good run and thus get too far ahead as well; the odd straggler (and/or the odd sturdy-walker) will see some sight or get so tired that `e decides 'staying with the group' is no longer worth it.
If everyone were like the leader, there would be no problem there! But he can't make everyone into something they are not. My first suggestion would be to turn the 'sprinters' into "buddies" of members the other groups; that way, each member could fall behind or -run ahead and still be accounted-for, as the 'buddies' would keep them connected with the leader.
Of course, there won't be enough sprinters (willing to accept the responsibility) to cover all the other members, so the leader will have to assign one-or-two willing sprinters to keep tabs on all the 'buddies' that come from other groups.
It's networking!
