I am a mother. Hence, I am a nurturer, a teacher, a caregiver, a pediatrician, a psychologist, a mind-reader, a giver, a taker, a motivational speaker, and a divine intervention by my own right. I am a mother, and I am blessed.
When my daughter entered the world a few months ago, I knew nothing of the love that my body and soul would be capable of giving and receiving. Yes, I had heard other mommy testimonies, reminding me that I was about to embark on the best portion of my life, that my life would never be the same, and that motherhood was a journey like no other. I listened intently to everyone's well wishes and advice, I read every mommy manual from cover to cover, and I constantly googled for tips on what to expect.
Yet, the one thing I learned is that nobody can really teach you or tell you what to expect when you are expecting. There is no manual, website, or word to describe the feelings that overtake a mother when she gives birth, when she wipes a runny nose, or when she feeds her child. Nobody can explain how a mother's heart can overflow with love and emotion every time her child smiles, how her heartstrings tear when she leaves her child for the first time, or how her heart bleeds when she suspects her child is in pain.
I am a mother. I have laughed, loved, smiled, cried, and ached for my child. I anticipate a future of continued love and heartache that no other occupation can offer, and a future complete with a roller-coaster ride of emotions. I bring home no monetary paycheck, yet I am overcompensated on a daily basis with all of the riches this life has to offer. The benefits of my job are indescribable and cannot be explained.
Yet, I am a mother, so I will try to tell others how I feel. I will attempt to put into words what no human being can ever verbalize or capture with print. Why? Because my possibilities are endless. I can do anything, as I have accomplished the greatest feat of all time: I am a mother.
