A universal health care will never be a good idea, nor feasible. The debate has been, and will be one of the big issues for the 2008 Presidential Election, and one that needs to be talked about. For a long time, many people, even myself thought, how great if everyone could have health care. If everyone would have insurance that they could afford, if everyone I knew, including myself was covered, at a low cost, that would be great. Unfortunately, the cost of covering everyone, is more than I can afford. It is cheaper for me to pay insurance on my own now then when "Everyone" will have care.

Each politician has different ways of looking at it, some are similar, others different, but what it will mean for everyone, is that it will cost something. Someone, somewhere, has to pay for this. If hospitals, nursing homes, if every doctors office was run by the state or federal departments, do you think that the government will pay doctors and nurses a high rate of pay? No. Where would they get the money for that? Going to a universal health care policy means that the great doctors in our Nation would go to other places to find jobs with a higher pay. Medical students would not spend countless years studying for exams, when in the end they knew that they would not be making much money after completing their courses because it is government regulated. Who would waste there time? Who would want to excel?

There is a difference in saying that the government will offer lower-cost plans and making everyone use these plans. I think it should be up to the individual to decide what to do for medical insurance and health care. I think private organizations should be able to have a free and competitive market. I believe it is a right of every person to make there own choices about their health and wellbeing. Not to let the government or others chose for us.
