The top sights to see in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Nestled invitingly at the tip of the Baja California south, Cabo San Lucas is replete with sunny shorelines, miles of picturesque bays and incredible diving sites. Once a stopover for infamous pirates, then not much more then a small fishing village, today Cabo is the prime focus of Los Cabos for its impressive natural and historical attractions. Though cocktails and clambakes are popular with young, trendy crowds there are a number of interesting scenic sites to explore in and around the city.

El Arco
The distinct architecture of El Arco, a massive natural rock formation, is one of the top attractions in Cabo San Lucas. A trip to the colossal arc can be made by panga boat and in low tide you can walk to it with some technical climbing involved. El Arco is often visited during snorkeling and diving trips and sailed passed by sunset cruises. The beach remains fairly secluded and is a great place to visit for an afternoon.

Todos Santos
Todos Santos is a scenic and charming little town up the coast from Cabo San Lucas. It can easily be reached by a short drive or boat tour. During the trip toward the town, beautiful panoramas are replete with endless cacti and miles of tranquil sandy beaches along the Pacific Ocean. When you've reached a lush, green haven you'll know you're there. Explore vibrant shops, novel art galleries and one-of-a-kind restaurants.

Iglesia de San Lucas
The historic Church of San Lucas is in downtown Cabo and remains one of the most frequented churches in the area. The austere structure is an impressive and significant standing testimonial to local history. The church's appearance has hardly been altered since its initial construction in 1731. Take some time to explore the interior as you get a better feeling for local culture.

Punta Lobos
See Cabo's Corridor beaches from this electrifying cliff top vantage point. Sea lions bask in the the warm sunshine providing fantastic photo opportunities from where the bluffs drop dramatically. A beach flanks the isolated cliffs, and though violent currents make it unfit for swimming, it's a colorful area to explore further on foot.

Whale Watching Boat Tours
The Sea of Cortez is home to massive Blue Whales often called the gentle giants of the ocean. From downtown Cabo you're only a brief boat ride away from seeing these majestic animals in their natural habitat. This favorite unforgettable experience is possible from many boat tours operating out of Cabo with Aero Calafia being the most popular choice.

El Faro Viejo
The circa 1890 lighthouse, of which only a base remains, offers spectacular coastal views from 500 feet over the ocean at El Faro Viejo. The once monumental landmark is now a lookout point where the remainder of a shipwreck can be seen below. The adjacent beach is home to nesting sea turtles in breeding season and also a popular area for horseback riding excursions.

Beaches
Hire a water taxi and head to Lover's Beach, a beautiful hidden cove situated at the confluence of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. Medano lines the main tourist strip where everything from sunbathing to sea kayaking can be enjoyed and shops and restaurants are abundant. Bahia San Lucas is a tranquil sun-swept bay area while Whale's Head is great for sport fishing. Santa Maria beach is a captivating bay bordered by vivid red mountains plunging into the ocean. The crescent-shaped beach is perfect for snorkeling, diving and swimming. Acapulquito and Costa Azul are both choice surfing beaches while Buenos Aires is preferred for whale watching off the shore.
