What to eat to recover from a lunch time gym workout

It depends how is your workout going to be?

1. For example if you are going to do some weight lifting, bench press, sit-ups, and such "heavy" exercises, you can soak pulses like Channa Dal in water and chew it before starting the exercise. Equivalently, raw eggs can be consumed before starting the exercises. It will replenish your energy requirement as the exercise pattern is "heavy". If it is not "heavy", do not use such raw eggs/pulses, it may add extra weight or can be some indigestion problem. To know whether the exercise pattern you are doing is "heavy" or not, the indication is that you need to sweat "a lot". In colder countries this may not happen, where you need to feel the pain in muscles and if in case you have indigestion problem, then tried to eat as light as required by your body. Hear what your body says....

2. If your exercise pattern is "medium" it is better you consume some fruits, preferably non-acidic. I mean to say avoid oranges or the like. Use banana, cantaloupe etc. This will make your stomach ease. May clear stomach congestion. At the same time do not over-eat. Consume only less than required. If you can... you can even stop with juices of non-acidic fruits.

To understand whether you are doing only "medium" level of exercise pattern, the indication is that you may not require a towel to clear your sweat. Probably you have not sweat out so appreciably, especially this is the indicator in warm countries. If you are in a cool country, then hear what your body says... yes, if you feel fatigued, then eat more, and if feel heavy reduce your intake.

3. If your exercise pattern is "low", then it is better to consume only juices or non-acidic fruits only. This will give enough stamina to do your work-out and will not add up to your calories as well. If you think simple juices are not enough you can drink some milk added juices. However it is better to avoid acid producing juices like orange juices..

It is okay if you can have a bath after exercise to feel fresh. If you are adding a Breathing exercise and/or Dyana (Meditation) practice after such work-out it will calm your mind and you can feel real fresh. Doing Breathing exercise will give your lungs a good work-out too. Normally a breathing exercise inhaling air deeply, retaining a few seconds, and leaving it slowly and steadily. Meditation involves concentrating on a single object inside the mind for a definite period of time. As the days go on, this period need to increase, so that you can progress well on the meditation process.
