Let's be realistic, the government, any government couldn't run a hot dog stand. If you want a credit card you go to the bank or your financial institution. If you don't have the money in your bank account then don't use the card.Unfortunately the banks have created their own monster,....ahhh....how easy it is to buy that new HD television or that new car and oh you don't have the money in your account,no problem. The thing with credit cards is that some people think it's just like cash, spend and then forget about until the bill comes in and then you say "wow did I really spend that much?".Governments are the real big spenders, give them a cheque and they spend the money for all the wrong reasons,so how can any government regulate anything when spend money like drunken sailors. If a consumer receive a card in the mail and they don't want it,cut it up and throw it in the garbage. Not too many people can say no to a credit card but we must be smart and realize that there are a lot of things we can have.Governments need to worry about the important things when running a country like health care and education not whether Joe Black is up to his eyeballs in debt.Owning a credit card is a privilege and should only be used when it's necessary and Joe consumer really should have only one card. It's up to the consumer whether or not they want more then one card but they need to realize that they need to pay back the credit card companies their money,oh and don't forget the interest if you are late in your payments. If there is any one who should regulate the credit card industry it is the consumer after all this is who the credit card companies are interested in and if the consumer is smart they should tell the card companies no more,we have our one card and that's all we need.Maybe then this companies will get the message and stop mailing cards.
