Is there a pandemic of negativity around the world? The answer is yes, and there is a reason for it. Our world is driven by a media that craves bad news. It is the wars, disasters, murders, scandal and gossip that command the highest billing, and everyday from moment we get up in the morning our world is saturated with news of everything bad that is going on in the world. If you switch on your television at any point during any given day and flick through the channels at random, you would be forgiven for thinking that this world only consists of wars, disasters, murders, scandal, gossip, animals that do the finniest things, and Jerry Seinfeld. Even so much of what we regard as entertainment is based on negativity, be it soap operas, reality television or crime shows.

Surely they are nice things happening in the world too. Frankly I long for the day when I switch on the 9 o'clock news to be told something that will cheer me up. You know, the type of news that will enspire me rather than depress me. How do we find out about the heroes, the people to invent or discover things, the people who dedicate their lives to helping others? It is the pandemic of negativity that makes the criminals and cheats more famous than the heroes. Aren't there any countries out there where the people are basically happy? Surely that can happen...can't it?
