How to Buy Shoes
A Beginners Guide to Getting Started

Equipment:
1. Comfortable attire for maximum endurance.
2. Credit card. Cash will do in a pinch but can be limiting.
Note: Be sure to check card balances before leaving home. You wouldn't want to be caught at the counter trying to explain why your Mastercard won't go through.
3. Best girlfriend. A boyfriend will do in a pinch, and may even carry your packages, but may end up surly and dejected with the potential to ruin your shopping excursion. Please see below for further explanation.

4. Water bottle and snack. What if those pumps aren't there when you get back?!
Another note: Coffee is great and we are all tempted by the Starbucks macchiato, but you aren't going to want to excuse yourself a second and third time to "powder you nose" in the middle of your outing.

Directions:

I must first say that proper readiness is imperative. We are of course, not Boy Scouts but none the less it would behoove us all to adhere to their charming aphorism and as they say, always be prepared. Remember, you are shoe shopping, this is not a quick jot to the corner epicerie and should not be treated as such.

Comfort is a must but you don't want to be charging out the door in sweat pants and a jumper. Remember, if you're leaving the house in pajama bottoms, you are saying to the world "I am giving up". Wear something that will allow you an idea of what your new shoes will look like with your existing wardrobe. Something you can both sit and strut in is imperative. I recommend a well tailored pants suit or a simple, monochromatic A-line skirt and complimentary sweater combo. If your butt looks good, so will your shoes. It will also serve you to note that, while accessories are often tempting, unless your destination supplies a coat check, then scarves, gloves, shawls and other fashion accouterments may prove cumbersome and ill suited for this particular excursion.

Be sure your undergarments are appropriate for the occasion. Any magasin de chaussures worth their calf skin won't permit un-stocking clad feet anywhere near their Jimmy Choos. So wear a pair of thin wool socks or knee length stockings. If the shoes you plan to begin your purchasing adventure in don't require the use of such sous-vtements be sure to drop some into your purse or hand bag. There are few things in this life as degrading as having to use the sock bin at your favorite boutique.
