No one can really be sure what they will be remembered for when they die. It's a toss really. We all have different memories of the person that has passed on. I can tell my family more about what I would like to be remembered for.
I have, at times, made a real mess out of my life. There are a great many things that I did well also. I had two great kids. I raised them to be strong and independent. I always wanted them to be able to think for themselves. I hope that my children remember all the really wonderful times we had when they were growing up. Going to the beach and spending the day swimming and then riding the rides. Going to church on Sundays, for vacation bible school and Sunday School.
I hope my daughter remembers the Girl Scout Troop that I had and the dance classes I took her to. I want her to remember those things because I want her to think they are important for her to do with her daughter.
I hope my son remembers how very much like me he always was. I hope he also remembers that sometimes he should try to be a little less like me for his own good.
I hope that my granddaughter remembers coming to grand-mom's. She's not old enough to have a whole lot of memories. Still, I hope she remembers our walks.
I hope that my boyfriend remembers how very much I loved him. I hope that April Fool's Day always brings a smile to his face when he thinks about the fact that we met that day.
Mostly, I hope that people remember how much I cared. That is what I do best. I have been a care taker. I love taking care of people. It is what I do best. I try to nurse people back to health. I try to talk them off the ledge. I try to give them a hug when they need it.
I have had some really down times in my life. Times that I thought I would never get out of. Maybe people will remember that. Maybe they will remember how much it took for me to get back on my feet.
They may also see the fun side of me. Dancing around the house pretending that I have a microphone and that I can sing. I am more of a serious person, but I hope that I also knew how to have fun.
The serious side of me is the prominent end of things for me. If anyone remembers anything, they will probably say that I didn't smile a lot. It takes something really funny to make me laugh. Of course, if I'm tired, I might laugh at nothing at all. I cry often. That's not really a bad thing all the time. I will cry over anything. I cried when I saw my granddaughter born. I cried when I found out my step-daughter was pregnant. I cried when I thought I had lost my son and I cried when I knew his life was given back. Crying is my way of getting out what is in me.
In any case, life has been a wonderful roller coaster ride. There are so many ups and downs. The up far outweigh the downs. So whatever it is that people might remember about you, be glad you have the chance to be remembered!
