Why you're never too old to write

The idea of writing being an activity that mainly young people pursue isn't entirely accurate, as the fact is that most professional writers and also published authors tend to be older people. This is particularly true for very famous authors, who often achieve success after their series of publications gains popularity over the course of many years.

You can never be too old to write because as you go through life you accomplish more and experience and see more and more things you can write about. Older people also have a more balanced and calm outlook, and a more educated one from not falling into any of the traps of youth. Having seen how the world works for a longer period of time you are in a better position to have an opinion on most subjects because you are more likely to have experienced something of it in your lifetime.

The older someone is, also the more the chances are that they have experienced a major world event which shapes the history of the world. For example the generation of people who lived through world wars and the like have a lot of experiences which they can write about. Someone a lot younger who hasn't really experienced much in their lives yet will have a more limited pool of anecdotes and experiences which they can draw from.

Most types of writing are based on personal experiences of one kind or another, which a young person hasn't always had time to experience for themselves. This means that often when writing about the same subject, older people will have more realistic and accurate accounts than people who have no experience with their subject. Obviously the fact that this makes older people more successful at writing means that they are more likely to do it. Meeting with less success means that more younger people will tend to give up writing than older people also.

If you look at the majority of great writers, or even just good writers in the world today, a great majority of them are old enough to be considered to be of retirement age or senior citizens even. This alone speaks volumes about how, particularly with writing, most people get better with age and experience rather than worse as with so many other things.

Where most professions tend to be best done by young people, older people don't diminish as they age with writing. So the continuation of writing more often extends into old age than most other activities. For example people usually stop playing sports, partying, and working as they get older. Writing is something which
