Bleach can be very damaging to your hair especially if you are planning to use this product in the home environment. Bleaching and all chemical procedures are best left in the hands of a licensed cosmetologist.
How Bleach Lightening Works:
Bleach is mixed with developer, which is a hydrogen peroxide mixture (generally stylist use 20 Volume)and then applied to the hair. Once the bleach mixture comes in contact with the hair, the developer opens the cuticle layer of the hair allowing the bleach formula to enter the hair's cortex.
Once inside the cortex, the bleach begins to eat away the colored hair molecules. Unlike with a tint procedure where the color molecules are replaced with other color molecules, the color molecules that are eaten away by the bleach are not replaced with anything. This leaves the hair in a very weakened state.
Bleach, even when applied properly can leave hair feeling coarse and dry. Hair will be more prone to breakage because of the weakened cortex and cuticle layers. If bleach is left on the hair too long it will cause the hair to break or melt off.
It is not recommended to attempt bleaching at home. Once hair is damaged it cannot be repaired. You can use products to reduce the appearance of damage but the hair cannot repair itself once it has been damaged by bleaching or other chemical services.
