Why Christians need to stay on top of current political issues

by William Sawyer

Created on: October 08, 2007

Radical Christian Conservatives exist in a world comparable to Islamic extremist. A world where contrived and invented morality is positioned sanctimoniously above all other moral view points. This being the case, it is easy to agree with the Christian Conservatives that they need a divorce form the Republican Party and they need to create their own political party. In that way extreme conservative Christians can not only stay on top of political issues they can craft policies that reflect all of their biblical positions.

The Republican Party made an unholy alliance with Christian Conservatives simply to gain a larger voting block. The general population had already rejected the majority of the platform issues that Republicans loved and by drafting platforms that appealed to extreme Christian Conservatives they created a voting block that blindly voted on single issues.

This voting block was courted by media and advertisers while being praised as the only true patriots. The Republicans knew that linking the politics of "living" with the "here after" they would be able to activate a voter block that could not say "no" to them. So while extremely conservative Christians may think they are following their Bible they are really following money, power, and greed. The exact opposite of real Christian values.

The joke is that power hungry Republicans never planned on making progress on social issues. Their goal was to keep the battle alive and keep the voter voting on these issues so that Republican power could be consolidated.

The issues that the Republican Party milked for votes were gay marriage, stem cell research, abortion, and end of life issues. From here they linked all of their other policies to family values while literally destroying families all in the search for greater profits for their corporate supporters.

To listen to real Republicans talk about conservative issues it is easy to see that they regret the alliance. Tucker Carlson, on MSNBC, has related how tired he is of the Christian Right and their control of the Republican Party. Arnold Schwarzenegger has stated that the Republican Party would gain voters if they moved 5% to the left on social issues. In fact, Dick Chaney and Laura Bush both have opposing views to George Bush on the role social issues play in politics. While Dick Chaney obviously does not support George Bush on his stands for abortion or gay marriage, he at least says he does not agree. The first lady always responds to social issues
