Thanksgiving is the time of year when we give thanks for the simple pleasures of life. For skiers and snowboarders, these include snow, snowmaking and ski areas. If you are lucky enough to be part of a family of snow sliding enthusiasts, why not consider a Thanksgiving holiday at a Colorado mountain resort?
"But wait," you say. The Thanksgiving dinner is a traditional family meal.
It seems a bit cold to celebrate this important holiday at a restaurant. However, if you consider a vacation rental as opposed to a hotel, the problem is solved. Many rentals come equipped with full kitchens, so you can still cook and enjoy a home-style sit down dinner. If you are staying slopeside, you can even enjoy a half a day of skiing or snowboarding before sitting down to eat. On the other days, you can eat lunch in your condo, rather than waste money on the over-priced mountain restaurants. Keep in mind that a two or three bedroom vacation rental is often less expensive than book multiple hotel rooms. So where should you go if you want to give thanks at the slopes? Read on.
Gobble Up These Offers at Copper Mountain
Vacation rental packages that are booked online at CopperColorado.com include Beeline Lift Tickets, which allow you to cut regular lift lines. Since Copper Mountain's Thanksgiving events make it a popular place to be during this period, you probably want to take advantage of this offer. After all, shorter lift lines mean more time on the slopes, and more time on the slopes means that you can burn more of those Thanksgiving dinner calories.
On November 23rd, the jibbers in your family can show off their stuff at the 6th Annual Leftover Yam and Jive Turkey Rail Jam. This "Thanksjibbing Festival," which takes place in the Eagle Jib Park, offers a great opportunity to win great prizes. The entire family can work off dinner on November 24th, by participating in the Gobbler Chase 5K Snowshoe Race. Don't forget that Copper Mountain is served by the free Summit Stage bus system, which lets you visit the other Summit County resorts, such as Breckenridge and Keystone.
Thanksgiving at Aspen
Like Copper, Aspen, Colorado also features a Thanksjibbing Festival. However, it gets even better. This year, guests can ski or ride from opening day, which is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 22, through Friday, Dec. 7 at the low price of $55 a day, which is an incredible deal for Aspen. You must buy four or more days, and a seven day advance purchase is required.
If you are concerned about conditions, in the month of November, Colorado resorts get between 25 and 40 inches of snow. However, the high alpine environment means that these resorts have excellent snowmaking capabilities. That's something to be thankful for.
