Bed Wetting in Children - Outside Influences - A Child's Story
I was warm and cozy in my queen-size bed. Pleasant dreams circulated my mind. I'm not sure what they were about but I know they were pleasant because they didn't wake me.
Wake me-did I say?
Oh, please... Don't wake me!
At least not in the night; while the sun hasn't risen and there aren't enough stars in the sky or illuminating moon beams to lighten my room, for darkness, I do not care for. Not that there's any bad blood between us. We've never had a spat or butted heads in any way. It's just that something about dark's blinding blackness stiffens my flesh-makes me cringe-whenever our paths cross.
But wait... Now is probably a good time to disclose one more little detail-I am an insomniac-an insomniac who freaks in the dark. Not a good combination.
All right, with all this information, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to conclude the fact that dark's and my paths cross with a high degree of frequency-whenever I'm having an insomniatic bout.
Viewing the moistened inners of my eyelids during the midst of a wakeful episode, I often dare my self to open my eyes; to look around my room, to observe as dark transforms my seated lampshades into hovering ghosts, my wooden bedposts into dancing crones, and my dresser knobs into puffy pupils preparing to explode.
I can never do it though. Noticing those things once or twice in the past proved more than enough to make me grateful that everything, including dark, possesses an opposite; that dark's wonderful opposite-light-always arrives like brightness in shining armor to rescue me from my fear of dark's grasping fury.
Yes. I know my words seem to detest dark. Still, I assure you, dark is not my enemy. Well, at least, not directly. But there have been occasions when dark has caused me to carry out tasks in petrifaction. Like the times I wanted to go to the store, alone, to buy a candy bar, or a soda, or something during the second month of autumn, after the clocks fell back, and dark overcame daylight just after five every evening.
In fear, I'd dash to the store. Well, I didn't exactly run. I mean I didn't want nosey neighbor kids to get the impression I might be afraid. Speed walked all the way there and all the way back though. It was the only non-embarrassing way to travel with dark on my heels.
Escaping dark was precisely what I was doing the night I awoke after it was too late to realize I was not in the bathroom. Too late to grasp I was still snuggling
