OK here goes.. We need to first of all dispense with all assertions that the Bible represents scientific fact. It does not, and any theologian worth his/her salt will tell you so. Unfortunately at least 50% of Americans (mostly in the south) are of the persuasion that the Bible represents scientific or historical fact. These folks are good people but their faith is misplaced due to the perversion of literal Biblical interpretations over the years: an attempt to extract a scientific recipe for life and often the justification of a violent God.

Forget who mentions what and when in the Bible. Jesus preached the good news of love, compassion, and truth. Let's address gays. There are many so-called gays who are lost emotionally no doubt due to some developmental upheaval that shattered their lives one way or another, but they are decent, caring people, intelligent people. There are gays who are proclaiming that they are genetically different and thus they are gay. I am not qualified to judge this on a scientific basis. I believe that we must not follow any doctrine blindly, no matter whether Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, or Islam, or for that matter atheism. This is essentially a childish form of faith that is very dangerous and very evident in our culture today. Such blind faith breeds hatred and violence. We need to get back to the real message of Christ. Do you know it? Do we seek to truly understand each person, their sufferings, their journey? Are we afraid of the unknown? Can we be compassionate and accept some of their suffering as our own?
