-INTRODUCTION-
Games Workshop is an excellent place to meet up with new people and have a lot of fun.
They are the main source of miniatures and hobby materials in the UK, and the main ranges of miniatures they sell are the following:
Warhammer,
Warhammer 40K,
The Lord of the Rings (LotR).
There are millions of Games Workshop's all over the UK and the rest of the world, and the staff in all of them are really nice and welcoming.
In GW (Games Workshop) they are always organising free competitions and games, and stuff like that. In most of them, there are weekly games for every range of miniatures, so you can really get a sense of community and get to know people really well.
The hobby is aimed for people of any age - however, there aren't many people under the age of 12 that are into it, as it requires a lor of patience to get into the hobby.
-PERSONAL EXPERIENCE-
Personally, I only collect the Lord of the Rings miniatures, but most people collect Warhammer or Warhammer 40K as well. The Lord of the Rings part of GW has only been running for about 4 or 5 years, but there have been literally thousands of different LotR miniatures released.
There are basically two different aspects of the hobby. One of them is the gaming side, but a lot of people prefer collecting the miniatures and painting them really well, or making terrain and scenery for the games.
I am more into the painting part of the hobby, and over the years I have gained a lot of experience of that. I also make ruins, houses, hills, trees, etc.
However, I go to my local Games Workshop every Sunday with some friends I have made there to play a big game with all my miniatures. A lot of the time, the staff comment on how well my miniatures are painted, or how much they like my newest piece of terrain.
-QUALITY AND PRICE OF PRODUCTS-
Games Workshop sell many products. Apart from the actual miniatures you buy, you also need paint, glue, tools, paintbrushes and more to be able to play a game of LotR/Warhammer/whatever.
A lot of people complain that the prices at GW are very expensive, and you might think this when you start off with the hobby. When you start, you need to buy undercoat spray, paints to start off with, glue (a couple of different types), and a few other tools and stuff.
Including your first miniatures, this could easily cost up to 80.
However, once you have started off, you will only need to spend about 5 or 10 a month, on extra paints and new paintbrushes and stuff. For me, I hardly need to buy anything now,
